ENAT - European Network for Accessible Tourism
ENAT is a new membership organisation for businesses, organisations and individuals who wish to support and learn more about accessible tourism in Europe. The network hopes to bring together expertise and perspectives of all players, including venue managers, tourism marketing organisations, educationalists, researchers, public authorities, regulators and consumer organisations. The I'DGO project - Inclusive Design for Getting Outdoors
The I'DGO project aims to identify ways of ensuring the outdoor environment designed inclusively, to improve the quality of life for older people. In focussing on the changing needs of older people, the consortium addresses issues that are relevant to disabled people regardless of age. The SPARC Initiative - Strategic Promotion of Ageing Research Capacity
SPARC is a UK initiative which brings together researchers, practitioners and policy makers in ageing. It specialises in communicating the latest design, engineering and biological ageing-related research to all stakeholders, making the case about the benefits for an ageing population of scientific research, and it encourages new blood into ageing research. SPARC is supported by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council. More information on SPARC on http://www.sparc.ac.uk/.
COST 219ter - Accessibility for All to Services and Terminals for Next Generation Networks
The main objective of COST 219ter is to increase the accessibility of next generation telecommunication network services and equipment to elderly people and people with disabilities by design or by adaptation when required. In cases where this cannot be achieved, the project will promote the establishment of appropriate supplementary assistive services and equipment. Further information on http://www.cost219.org.
ISO/TC59/SC16 Accessibility and usability of the built environment
This sub-committee of ISO TC 59 on Building Construction hopes to contribute to facilitate the access and the use of buildings to people with special needs. It is currently working on the standardization of symbols, terms and definitions used in the field of accessibility, the standardization of design accessible principles and the standardization of requirements for building to ensure the accessibility for everyone. At this moment (July 2005) only one project standard has been registered, i.e. ISO/AWI 21542 "Building construction - Accessibility and usability of the built environment".
CEN/BT WG 157 Accessibility for All
The objective of this BT/WG 157 is to make proposals and/or recommendations to the CEN Technical Board (in short CEN BT) in the field of Accessibility for All. According to our information this working group is not very active for the moment. The last meeting would have taken place in the beginning of 2004.
The Build for All project
The Build for All project is a Pilot Project to mainstream disability policies, supported by the European Commission promoting Accessibility to the built environment through the implementation of Design for All. The principal objectives of the project are to raise awareness of accessibility to the built environment (buildings, outdoor spaces and facilities), and to provide practical guidance to those who prepare calls for tender for design and construction works under the Public Procurement Directives of the European Union. The project will produce in that regard 2 documents - a Handbook and a Toolkit. More information on http://www.build-for-all.org.

This working commission of CIB, the International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction, originated from the merger of the former CIB TG19 "Designing for the Ageing Society" and CIB W084 "Building Non-handicapping Environments". EDeAN - The European Design for All e-Accessibility Network
EDeAN was established in 2002, in accordance with one of the specific goals of the eEurope 2002 Action Plan. The Action Plan was agreed on and committed to by the European Commission and all the member states. The goal of this action is to raise the profile of Design for All and emphasize its importance in achieving greater e-Accessibility. The European Commission, via the Directorate General "Information Society", retains an active advisory role in helping EDeAN fulfil the eEurope Action Plan. Reasonable Access project
Project aiming to develop good practice for providing Reasonable Access to the physical built environment for disabled people, ReasonableAccess has been funded under the European Commission’s Framework 6 Special Support Action; policy focused research, as part of the Work Programme ‘ 2.4 Quality of Life Issues Relating to Handicapped / Disabled People’. The project contributes to the strategic objectives of the Community and addresses a pan European strategic need to determine the policy, technical expression and business case implications concerning the question of reasonableness as applied to the provision of access and accommodation to disabled persons in the physical built environment. OSSATE - One-Stop-Shop for Accessible Tourism in Europe
The OSSATE project aims to implement a prototype multi-platform, multi-lingual digital information service providing national and regional content on Accessible Tourist Venues, Sites and Accommodation, initially from 2 EU Member States: Greece and the UK. The project started in January 2005 and runs until 2007. More information at http://www.ossate.org.
DIADA - Leonardo da Vinci project
The main result of the project will introduce new training system and procedures which will be designed for the whole sector including the manual, electronic materials and database. This is emphasized as an important point in Copenhagen Declaration. As a result it will improve sector workers qualifications which in along term will provide benefits for both tourist industry and people with disability.
